A perfect set of fixtures for the Wellington Phoenix academy.
The women’s reserves reached the Kate Sheppard Cup quarter-final for the second year running, toppling Central League leaders Wellington United at Newtown Park.
Sienna Candy’s second half strike was the only goal of the game, played in ferocious rain.
The U16 boys beat Upper Hutt City 1-0 in the Capital 1 division, Grayson Lunman’s early strike setting them on their way.
The U16 girls also were victorious over Upper Hutt, with braces for Ruby Barber and Florence George plus a goal for Matilda Smith leading them to a 5-1 win.
There was a rout for the U15 boys side, who thrashed Petone 11-2.
Harry West, Sam Kiore, Zach Cashmore, and Charlie Farac all bagged doubles, with Thomas Wilkinson, Bilal Kusma, and Vasilios Kastrinakis each netting once.
And the U14 boys rounded off the successful weekend, hammering Greytown FC 5-1.
Two goals for Tristan Bancroft were backed up by strikes from Harper Norman, Kieran MacMahon, Sebastian Bodden, and George Millar.
This weekend, both Central League sides play at Fraser Park, with the men’s reserves hosting Island Bay and the U18 women hosting Palmerston North United.
The U18 men also come up against Island Bay, with the women’s reserves playing Western Suburbs.
Both of the U16 sides play Stop Out, while the U15 and U14 boys sides face Onslow/North Wellington.
