biography-icon Biography

DOB 5/11/91

Marco Rojas rejoined the Wellington Phoenix in July 2024 after 13 years away.

The decorated winger launched his professional football career with the Phoenix as a teenager in 2009 after he received a Yellow Fever scholarship to train with the first team.

Rojas went on to play 21 A-League matches for the Nix before heading to Melbourne in 2011 for the first of three successful spells at the Victory.

He won the Johnny Warren Medal for the A-League’s best player in 2013 after scoring 15 goals and creating six others for the Victory.

It earned him a move to VfB Stuttgart in Germany. Rojas spent the next three years in Europe, playing in Germany and Switzerland before returning to Melbourne in 2016.

He scored 13 goals and assisted nine others on his return to Victory, earning another move to Europe, this time to Heerenveen in the Dutch Eredivisie.

Rojas spent one and a half seasons at Heerenveen before moving to Danish Superliga club Sønderjyske at the start of 2019.

He rejoined the Victory 12 months later and played another two and a half successful seasons in Melbourne.

Rojas secured a dream move to Colo-Colo in 2022 and had an unforgettable 12 months at the Chilean giants, winning both the league and cup competitions.

> 2023-24 season

Marco Rojas took a break from football after leaving Colo-Colo in July. He joined Brisbane Roar at the end of January for the second half of the A-League season.

Rojas made his Roar debut against the Wellington Phoenix in February, and he made a further seven appearances for Brisbane before a hamstring injury brought an early end to his season.

He memorably scored a brace in a 3-2 win over Melbourne Victory in March.

Rojas believes he can achieve something special in Wellington under head coach Giancarlo Italiano.

“I’d like to believe so. I hope so. It’s beautiful having hope and that belief.

“I’m able to have that hope and belief because of what I’ve seen from the outside with the Phoenix under Chiefy. From the outside in it looks like a great place to be.

“I also got to go to Wellington to talk to Chiefy and spend some time with him. I recognise what a great person he is and I’m very hopeful that we can win together.

“I certainly believe it and I’ll be doing everything I can to make it happen.”
