Wellington Phoenix announce ‘Junior Capo’ campaign for 2017/18!

In recent years, football has eclipsed both codes of rugby to become the most popular team sport among young New Zealanders.

While every sport has its attractions, what really differentiates football from other codes is the colour and vibrancy of the supporters, and the energy they bring inside stadiums on matchday!

Wellington Phoenix currently boast a solid core of staunch Yellow Fever supporters who demonstrate their passion for their team at every home game in a vocal and colourful fashion – watch any Sky Sport advertisement and Fever will probably feature with one of their iconic celebrations!

Now we are looking for the next generation of Yellow Fever supporters: young people who will bring noise and colour to Westpac Stadium. We want young football fans who will go the extra mile to bring their mates to Phoenix games and show them what makes football a unique spectator experience.

Wellington Phoenix are launching a new initiative called ‘Junior Capo’, which aims to help more young footballers get to the games and have a good time with their friends while watching the sport they love.

The Phoenix are looking for Junior Capos from across the Wellington Region to help us get as many young supporters to our games as possible. If you are a young football fanatic who believes you can influence your friends and family to attend Phoenix home games, then being a Junior Capo is the perfect role for you!

As a Junior Capo, you will be in charge of recruiting as many friends/teammates/family members as you can for each home game. You will liase with the Community Engagement Assistant regarding how many people you are bringing to the game, and will be given access to special ticket discounts for you and your entourage.

Recruiting friends is easier than ever before, with modern technology and social media, so we encourage Junior Capos to use their creativity and communication skills to gather as many future Phoenix fans as possible.

Last month Football Federation Australia re-launched it’s highly acclaimed “You’ve Got to Have a Team” campaign with a competition to find all ten Hyundai A-League teams a ‘Fanbassador’ – one particular grassroots footballer who despite loving the game, perhaps had never really become a committed fan of any particular A-League side.

We’re delighted to announce that since then our very own Fanbassador eleven-year-old, Noah, who plays for North Wellington football club has come on board as our very first junior capo!

Watch the video attached to see he and his friend’s first match-day experience in the junior capo zone!
