SONY New Zealand-s successful partnership with Wellington Phoenix FC will continue in 2010/11, with the electronics giant backing the club as major partner for another season.
For the Hyundai A-League 2010/11 season, the Sony brand will again feature on the front of the Phoenix-s bold home and alternate playing strips.
“Last season was an amazing one for the Phoenix and this coming season promises to be even bigger and better,” said Sony New Zealand Managing Director Martin McManus.
“We-ve enjoyed an exciting and beneficial relationship with the Phoenix since coming onboard as principal partner in their inaugural season in 2007. For Sony New Zealand, sponsoring the Wellington Phoenix is about supporting football on our home turf and ensuring Sony and the club continues to lead the way in a code that has taken off spectacularly in this country. This year will be a massive one for football in New Zealand and Sony is looking forward to being there every step of the way.”
Mr McManus said the Phoenix had cemented its status as one of the country-s marquee sporting organisations on and off the playing field.
“Sony-s new make.believe brand values of action, spirit, imagination, design and dream have been clearly demonstrated by Wellington Phoenix FC in all facets of operation. That-s what makes this ongoing partnership a perfect fit for Sony and the Phoenix.”
Sony, which manufactures audio, video, communications and information technology products for the global consumer and professional markets, is a huge supporter of football at all levels worldwide.
“Sony has official partnerships with FIFA, the UEFA Champions League and the Hyundai A-League. In June, Sony will be sending a New Zealand football fan to South Africa to be an official FIFA Flag Bearer at the FIFA World Cup. Like our partnership with the Phoenix this is a great opportunity for us to support local football talent and provide experiences for football fans at this exciting time in New Zealand football-s history.”
Phoenix chief executive Tony Pignata said the continuing partnership with Sony was proof the club had a bright future.
“The club had an amazing season in 2009/10, missing out on making the grand final by just one game. We are an ambitious club and together with Sony we-re aiming to go all the way this season.”
