Based at the NZCIS Sports Hub in Trentham, this live-in role plays a vital part in supporting the success and wellbeing of our Academy players by creating a safe, structured, and nurturing environment.
About the role
This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for a group of 18 boarders aged 13 to 18. You will lead a small team and work closely with the Academy’s families, coaches, and support staff to ensure our players thrive both personally and professionally.
You will live on-site (with accommodation provided at a significantly reduced cost) and be available to provide outstanding care and support, mostly out-of-school hours.
You will be responsible for:
- Overseeing daily operations of the boarding house, maintaining a safe, clean, and supportive environment for all boarders and managing staff rosters for transportation and meals.
- Providing pastoral care and mentoring to boarders, supporting their physical and mental wellbeing in collaboration with Academy staff and relevant schools.
- Supervising and supporting two part-time Residential Assistants, fostering their professional growth and ensuring effective team collaboration.
- Managing health and safety procedures, including drills, compliance records, and addressing residential issues.
- Maintaining regular communication with families, schools, Academy staff and the Ministry of Education as needed.
- Developing and evolving operational procedures to advance the boarding house in line with business development goals.
What we’re looking for:
- Strong communication, problem solving and organisational skills.
- Experience working with young people within a boarding, residential or youth care setting. Equivalent life experience raising family will be considered.
- A calm, empathetic, and proactive approach to youth care.
- Strong relationship management skills.
- Confidence with general IT systems and administrative tasks.
- First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- A full NZ driver’s license.
- A relevant qualification in youth work, or residential care is desirable.
What we offer:
- Fixed term, full-time role.
- Generously subsidised accommodation, meals, power & internet.
- The opportunity to make a real impact on young lives.
- Contribution to the growth of Wellington Phoenix FC.
